Ro-Ro cargo operations continue to form an integral part of the daily activities at the Port of Felixstowe.
These activities are centred on Dooley Terminal’s berths 3 & 4, which provide common-user Ro-Ro capacity with lock-free access, rapid mooring/un-mooring,?850 trailer parking slots, and secure ISPS-compliant terminal facilities – including?security fencing, and?a camera system for?recording?cargo condition through the gatehouse complex.
The terminal has been undergoing significant improvements, with an additional 168 bay trailer park and works to replace 4 Bridge with a high specification, purpose built, 3 lane, floating pontoon linkspan, which began in 2020. When completed in January 2021, the terminal will be able to accommodate the largest Ro-Ro vessels in the World.?
Berth 3 has a?208 metre quay, with a minimum depth alongside of 7.3 metres. It incorporates an elevating, dual lane Ro-Ro bridge that is 43.6 metres long, 9.1 metres wide, with an end width of 17 metres and load capacity of 120 tonnes. The berth can be accessed at all states of the tides by bow- and stern-loading vessels up to?209 metres in length, with a beam of 24.4 metres.
Berth 4 provides deep-sea Ro-Ro?handling facilities?with a minimum depth alongside of 9.75 metres.
