WORLD CLASS BORDER INSPECTION PORT FACILITIES
Just as at any other port, statutory inspections of certain cargoes and product types need to be made at Felixstowe. Our 6,000 square metre Container Freight Station (CFS) on Trinity Terminal houses the latest examination facilities, dedicated to this task.
As well as providing extensive container devanning and stuffing services, the CFS offers modern, state-of-the-art Border Inspection Post facilities to allow examinations to be made by:
We are committed to ensuring that cargoes are not unduly delayed and the whole examination process is streamlined. As a result, daily planning of the examination areas takes place, in collaboration with the relevant Authorities.
EXCEEDING EU GUIDELINES
The Port of Felixstowe has invested in the creation of two purpose-built BIP areas to enable specialist inspections to take place – the Temperature Controlled Examination Facility (TCEF) and the Ambient Temperature Examination Facility (ATEF). Both of these areas comfortably exceed EU guidelines for Border Inspection Posts.
The examination area also allows the presentation of containers to a state-of-the-art X-Ray scanning machine, based permanently on the port and controlled by UK Border Force.
TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED EXAMINATION FACILITY (TCEF)
The examinations undertaken in the TCEF are usually of products of animal origin, and are predominantly called for by the Port Health Authority.
The TCEF is divided into two inspection areas. The first of these is a five-bay facility, used to examine cargoes for human consumption – largely fish and chicken. The other area has two bays, and is used for the inspection of cargoes not for human consumption, such as fishmeal and pet food.
AMBIENT TEMPERATURE EXAMINATION FACILITY (ATEF)
The Port’s designated ATEF is housed within a large warehouse known as 70 Shed. It is split into two areas: one for the examination of products of animal origin, such as canned tuna, gelatine and corned beef; and the other for the examination of foodstuffs not of animal origin, such as nuts and fruit.
For hygiene purposes and to prevent cross-contamination, all areas within both the TCEF and the ATEF are kept entirely separate from each other, and each has its own equipment.
